Fall Family Session at Winston-Salem’s Historic Old Salem

Gorgeous Moravian architecture, vibrant fall leaves, a crisp breeze, and the sweetest family you’ll ever meet.

Let me introduce you to my friend, Stephanie. She’s one of the warmest, most authentic people I know…and she trusted me to preserve her family’s memories. I felt so honored, and I’m thrilled to finally share this fall photoshoot with you.

The Perfect Winston-Salem Location for Fall Family Photos

If you’re looking for the perfect spot for fall family photos in Winston-Salem, you can’t go wrong with Old Salem.

Between the historic homes, cobblestone walkways, and colorful trees, Old Salem captures autumn at its finest. Stephanie also happens to love history so this location felt meant to be.

That said, Old Salem can be tricky to photograph. It’s a popular spot, and golden hour likes to play a little hide-and-seek behind the buildings. But if you can find it, the session is pure magic.

A Blend of Play and Posing: Our Family Session Highlights

We started our session at the covered bridge for classic family portraits before strolling to the barn. Of course, we had to pause for some King of the Mountain. 

Stephanie and Mitch are laid-back and joy-filled, which allowed me to capture their kids just being kids.

As the light began to fade, we moved toward the gardens. In my humble opinion, that’s where the magic really happened. The kids played tag, dad joined in for a little wrestling, and Stephanie just got to enjoy herself.

Their daughter spotted the corn stalks and begged for a photo to send to her grandma. How could I resist? The girl’s got a great eye for backdrops.

My favorite part of this session—and the reason it lives in my mind on repeat—is this family’s deep, genuine love for one another. You can feel it in every picture.
